FatPort, founding member of newly launched international WISP Association

April 29, 2002, Vancouver, BC - FatPort announces its founding membership in Pass-One -- an international (Wireless Internet Service Provider) WISP Association. This organisation has been established to provide a single multilateral international roaming agreement that allows the end-user of a member WISP to roam on the networks of all other member WISP's (regardless of the radio technology in use or the geographic location). In addition, the organisation will establish the industry standards for roaming service delivery.

As a Founding Member of Pass-One, FatPort has played and will continue to play, a very important role in the definition of the legal roaming framework including, roaming policies as well as in the standardisation process, and the actual implementation of the multilateral roaming platform. Pass-One is the representative forum of the international WISP community in the industry and a powerful defender of the interests that are specific to service providers.

Sean O'Mahony, CEO of FatPort, comments: "Our sole focus at FatPort is to provide an exceptional customer experience. Our geographic focus is Western Canada: when our customers use our service in our home territory we can ensure that the customer experience meets their expectations. However, when our customers travel we want them to take advantage of the natural economic benefits that commercial, public WLAN's provide while at the same time, experiencing professional customer service from our partners. Adopting standards between service providers is the best way to ensure that our mutual customers benefit from seamless roaming".

Catherine Delrez as spokeswoman for Pass-One says: "Seamless roaming is the key success driver to the expansion of wireless LAN as the easiest access to broadband communication. The more "natural" or "second nature" it is for the end-user to access wireless broadband the more likely it will be a success for the mass market. We have been working very closely with FatPort and the other Founding Members to define the framework of Pass-One. We believe we have come up with a very solid basis for seamless WLAN roaming both between different WISP's and different technologies. The work is still on-going and we have a lot of challenges in front of us. However together with our strong Founding Members we are confident that we can build an appropriate and successful roaming platform which is exactly what the industry needs."
