FatPort wires the Westin Grand for wireless
First Hotel in Canada offering FatPort Wireless Internet
Vancouver, May 14, 2002 -- FatPort Corporation, in conjunction with the Westin Grand Vancouver,
is pleased to announce the roll out of their first high-speed public wireless Internet access
point in a Canadian hotel. The service responds to the fast growing demand for high-speed
wireless networking by mobile professionals throughout the world.
The FatPort network, available on a pay-per-use basis, is accessible on the Lobby level of
the hotel, which includes the lobby area, 4 function rooms, the Aria Restaurant & Lounge, and
the Business Centre. Conveniently, once an account is created, it is valid at all of FatPort's
wireless locations (FatZones). The cost to users is C$3 for a 15 minute trial, C$8 for 60 minutes,
C$15 for a 24 hour connection and C$40 for a monthly subscription (plus applicable taxes).
FatPort's wireless Internet system uses industry standard Wi-Fi
(802.11b) technology which operates at speeds up to 40 times that of other
wireless internet technologies. Demand for this technology is growing as more corporations
switch to the more convenient Wi-Fi technology instead of traditional wired LANs. Recognizing
this, most laptops shipped today include Wi-Fi cards as part of their standard configuration.
For guests who do not have built in Wi-Fi hardware, The Westin Grand has loner cards available
through Service Express? at no charge (a credit card deposit will be taken at point of issue).
While within the FatZone, anyone using a properly equipped laptop or handheld computer with a
Wi-Fi Card can quickly and easily take advantage of the network.
